First of all, what has me stumped at the moment is this error I keep getting while attempting to install XP: "File \i386\c_1252.nls could not be loaded. Error code is ? --> (and yes the error code was a "?", same with next one) 5. \i386\KDCOM.dll could not be loaded. Code: 1. so I'm trying a second time.

the first time the recovery console was loading it stopped and gave me this error message - File\i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. As I'm sure you can tell, I'm a bit of a novice and some of this is over my head.
