Thanks in advance. Is it bad form to write mysterious proofs without explaining what one intends to do? This issue is probably related to not having a package installed that needs to be for your authentication to function properly. with no luck of course !

You are advised to configure your system so that Subversion can store passwords encrypted, if possible. As long as SASL is disabled in svnserve.conf, I can connect to the repository without trouble. But well. I'm not quite sure hwo sasl is supposed to know to use the svn.conf file to authenticate with svnserve.
